TAVI procedure is relatively new to many medical professionals, which makes it challenging to fully understand the risks of the procedure. For this reason, ADN CoE company decide to organize a training in this topic which was conducted by two of the most experienced experts in Turkey
Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is an increasingly common surgical procedure used to treat severe aortic stenosis in patients who have other medical conditions that make open heart surgery too dangerous or risky. This non-surgical procedure involves implanting a new artificial valve into the patient's existing aorta via a catheter inserted in the groin. TAVI is an effective treatment option for patients who are high risk for open heart surgery or who are unlikely to benefit from open heart surgery. Patients typically experience shorter recovery times, less pain, and less scarring after the TAVI procedure than after open heart surgery. However, there are some risks associated with the TAVI procedure that doctors should consider before having the procedure done. These include the possibility of bleeding and infection. These risks are usually low if the procedure is performed in a qualified hospital by experienced surgeons. According to some studies previously made, more than 200,000 people worldwide have had this procedure performed since its introduction in 2002 but still until know the procedure has some fuzzy aspects not every doctor can master, while the number of patients receiving this therapy is expected to grow significantly over the next few years, doctors seek to learn more about this procedure and its long-term effectiveness.
TAVI procedure is also relatively new to many medical professionals, which makes it challenging to fully understand the risks of the procedure. For this reason, ADN CoE company decided to organize a training in this topic which was conducted by two of the most experienced experts in Turkey, our leads cardiac Prof. Dr. Barış Ökçün and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldız. During the training they shared their expertise on transcatheter aortic valve implantation and its risks, as well as the benefits this type of treatment provides over traditional open-heart surgery.
The training was attended by doctors from leading hospitals across the world who have expressed interest in learning more about TAVI and how it can improve the quality of care for patients with heart disease and which took place in the 1st and 2nd of February at Seyrantepe Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital.
The aim of the training was to give detailed insight in the TAVI Procedure, like its indications, contraindications, benefits and risks, as well as to highlight ongoing research, technological developments and possible future advances of this procedure. An interactive session also followed the presentation and included questions and answers, so that the audience could get a better understanding of how this procedure could change the future of interventional cardiology, doctors also performed life cases with the participants and discussed with them the real clinical applications of this procedure in a one-to-one setting. During the training, participants had the opportunity to network with other participants and find out more about their experience with TAVI.
Many attendees commented on how useful it was to share their experiences with other doctors and to listen to the perspectives from others who shared similar experiences. There was also great interest in the opportunity to network with other TAVI experts from around the world and learn about their experiences with TAVI. Participants gave high marks for the training session, with one participant commenting "The talk was very educational and I can really understand how TAVI can improve the patient outcomes compared to traditional procedures." Another attendee commented "It was really good to have feedback from other attendees on their experience with the TAVI procedure; this was very beneficial in my understanding".
